The following medications must be stopped before undergoing a skin test. If you are not sure of a medication please check with our office or your pharmacist. These medications are listed with the brand name first and generic drug name in parentheses.
The following medications must be discontinued 7 full days before an appointment:
- Allegra (fexofenadine)
- Allergra-D (fexofenadine with pseudoephedrine)
- Atarax (hydroxyzine)
- Benadryl (diphenhydramine)
- Clarinex (desloratadine)
- Claritin/Alavert (loratadine)
- Chlor-Trimeton (chlorpheniramine)
- Dimetapp (brompheniramine)
- Tagamet (cimetidine)
- Xyzal (levocetirizine)
- Zantac (ranitidine)
- Zyrtec (cetirizine)
- OTC (over the counter) cold and sinus medications.
The following medications must be discontinued 72-hours (3 full days) before an appointment:
- Astelin/Astepro nasal spray (azelastine)
- Dymista nasal spray (azelastine hydrochloride and fluticasone propionate)
- Optivar eye drops (azelastine)
- Patanase nasal spray (olopatadine)
- Pataday 0.2% eye drops (olopatadine)
- Patanol 0.1% eye drops (olopatadine)
- Zaditor eye drops (ketotifen)
